Monsignor McGrath was born in County Waterford, Ireland. He was a graduate of St. John’s Evangelist Seminary and was ordained in 1938. He came to Lompoc in 1955 and within five years built a Catholic school, convent, and church to serve the growing Catholic community. In 1968, Monsignor supervised the building of Queen of Angels Parish and School in Mission Hills. He celebrated his 70th year of ordination on June 16, 2008 as well as the 60th anniversary of La Purísima School during the summer of 2018.
This scholarship commemorates Monsignor Andrew McGrath for his many years of service to Lompoc’s Catholic community. He was a pastor and builder, through his work we have our churches and school for the parishes of La Purísima Concepción and Queen of Angels.
